How to use our results forwarding feature to automatically copy previous form results to new forms

The Results Forwarding feature allows you set certain fields on forms to "forward" each time you create a new form. This is a useful feature if you regularly fill out one form and certain fields in that form will always stay the same.

For example, say that you are tracking a students grade every month for particular subjects. You may have a form that includes the name of the subject and the grade received. Each month, you start a new form, type the class subject, and the grade the student received that month. You now have to repeat that process every month, even though the class subject may never change.

With our results forwarding feature, you can set up the class subjects to forward so that each month, all you have to do is change the grade! Check it out in the GIF below:

You can use the results forwarding feature to forward numbers, text, radio/checkbox options, and more! (Currently, the only field you cannot forward is an Upload field). Below are instructions for setting up results forwarding.  You need to be an admin user and with permissions to edit forms in order to set up this feature.

Enable Result Forwarding for Your Form
You will need to configure the form to be eligible for result forwarding. To do this, put your form in "edit" mode, or create a new form by clicking on "+Add a New Activity"/"+Add an Assessment".

(If you are not sure where to find this area, please read our Create an Activity or Assessment Form article or Edit or Delete an Activity or Assessment Form).

Once you are in edit mode, scroll down until you find the option "Enable Result Forwarding" in the grey Standard Fields box at the top of your form. Check this box if you would like to enable result forwarding for this form.

Enable forwarding on your field of choice
Now that you've enabled result forwarding for you form, you'll want to turn on result forwarding for the specific field.  Navigate to your field of choice and then press "click to toggle settings".

In the field's settings, you will see the option "Allow field results to be forwarded". Check this box. Repeat for all the fields you would like forwarded, then click "Save Changes" to save the form.

Now your form results are ready to be forwarded! Let's see how to use them...

Starting Your First Form
When you fill out the form on a contact for the first time, it will not be possible to forward results because there is no form to pull the results from yet! You can tell because the "Copy results from previously administered..." button will not be clickable.

Fill out the first form with all the information, including the fields that you will want forwarded. Then save the form.

Forwarding Results to Your Next Form
Now that you have the first form completed for your contact, you can choose the form again from the drop-down menu. Now you will see that the button "Copy results from previously administered..." is active.

It will also tell you the date of the last form that was completed. This is letting you know that the form results from the form on this date will be forwarded when you click the button.

Click "Copy results from previously administered..." button - you should now see that the fields you set up to forward are filled in with the result from your previous form.

*The results forwarding feature will always pull from the most recent result of that particular form in the contact's form list.

Overriding the forwarded result
You can always change the results inside a forwarded field. For example, say that my student is no longer in Math, but now takes Gym. Even if I have pressed the "Copy results from previously administered..." button, I can still delete Math and replace it with Gym. Then, when I fill out forms later, the result that will be forwarded is "Gym".
